343 days since last trackday…
In that time we’ve done a tonne of work in simplifying the car and cleaning up.
After some additional clutch adjustment (pickup point) and other minor alterations, we made the pilgrimage back to Winton for yet another test ‘n tune session on May 5th, 2012.
Immediately we could feel the grip the anti-roll bars were giving us. Much more immediate response and the car would take a set much more quickly… although it would bite much more quickly too.
We only did 3 sessions, we shared the last one, but we gained nearly 3 seconds a lap almost entirely thanks to the Whiteline sway bars. However, I think all that extra grip was now asking too much of the tyres and brakes, which fell off a cliff at the end of the day as we tried to find more car speed.
Overall another awesome session and we left with more of an appetite than when we arrived. We promised to come back in just a few weeks!
Here’s a few notes:
- Ran 32psi hot all-round (set them at 28… there was an expected increase of 3.5 – 4 psi from cold to hot)
- Clutch better but still not 100%, pickup point still a bit too deep / far in pedal throw.
- Kept popping out of 3rd (up to 3 times per lap) in transition from engine braking to turn in (at neutral torque).
- Brakes fading heavily at end of the final stint after 6/7 v. hard laps. Pedal completely to the floor giving only about 30% stopping power. Expect fluid has boiled and ruined.
