The stock brakes just weren’t up for the job last track day, but we can’t afford to just throw down a pile of cash for brake parts by the likes of endless, Alcon, APRacing, Project Mu yadda yadda. So for now, a stock rebuild is in order:
- Flush out all the old fluid
- Resurface the rotors (very scored and slightly warped)
- Fit new HEL braided brake lines
- Fit new Brake calliper seals
- Fit new Ferodo DS2500 pads
- Fit new brake fluid (Dot 5.1)
We think that’s pretty much as good as these original ‘stock’ brakes are going to perform. We won’t be re-surfacing the rotors again, they have fine cracks in them developing and there’s just not enough material now left on them anyways.
We also discovered that the gear selector rubber boot was reversed. Stupidly, we’d put it in backwards which had applied too much pressure on the selector when it was in 3rd. This is why it was popping out of 3rd, once we finished a braking roll and turned in… when the engine and wheel rpms matched without any torque applied ie when there was no load on gearbox shafts, easiest to pop out of gear.
I think we’re good here… did you say Trackday?…
