21 days since last trackday…
In that time we’ve completely rebuilt our stock brakes, also. Just before we headed to Winton we hastily added our first, but some-what basic two-way comms. This proved very helpful and was a major advantage to finding clear track and getting more hot laps. The comms suffered lots of irregular static and will need improving.
The brakes were markedly better, more feel, more grip and much happier with much higher temps. They did however seem lock more easily, but my guess is this was more likely those shitty tyres over temping. The telemetry tells us we are achieving much higher level of retardation (stop laughing). Also, with the brake upgrade Rory manage to improve much more at this track session than I did, improving his previous PB by 4.35secs! We had 5 sessions, Rory only having two sessions; seeing as my second session was spent completely under caution I went out for a double stint. In the end we both had two proper ‘hot’ sessions each. In my final session the VBOX had power issues, but we still had a GoPro to play with so at least there’s that.
Whilst we didn’t take ANY photos at this track day, but we do have a few exclusive frame grabs…
Pit Notes:
- Brakes can take lots of pressure immediately, but much less pressure later in the braking roll prob due tyre temp…. Might be easier to modulate without the brake booster (raise pedal pressure).
- Sway bars allow much more trail braking, but now need more fwd bake balance – possibly stiffer front/softer rear may help. Investigate w Forza
- Suspect Rory needs to brake straighter into turn 6 and 7 and get more lock off sooner to get power down, also maybe loosing time getting from sweeper to turn 6 apex: compare pedals and speed in that section w Marty.
- Rory appears to be riding, or at least resting on the clutch pedal, especially through the esses.
- Marty needs to find more time in sector 1 (turns 3 & 4).
Hotlaps and onboards to follow v soon…
