56 days since last trackday… In that time we’ve added the new Toyo Proxy R888’s, built an undertray and front splitter, added a new Borsch ‘044 fuel pump and created a completely custom scene file for the VBOX recording.
At the last minute we decided against taking the undertray as we weren’t confident it would be strong enough (at this point we hadn’t added the plywood skid) and we thought it would be good to get a baseline with the new tyres first. Also, a point to note here – the under tray made it impossible to get to the stock tow points, so we really need to build our own new tow points that are accessible when the front splitter is on, so for now it stays at home…
As it happened the first track day with proper track tyres happened to be our first ‘wet’ track day also. It looked like it would be a light shower or two and clear, but the weather was moving quickly and so although there were times when the track started to dry, it never fully did before the next soaking.
Rory headed out first to scrub in the tyres and feel the grip. We were both happy when he returned to the pits unscathed – I think we both gained a lot of confidence throughout the day driving in wet conditions thanks to those tyres. As you can see, we nearly equalled our previous (dry!) lap record thanks to the new boots.
Here’s a few pics:
Pit Notes:
Rear brakes consistently hotter than fronts, and kept loosing the rear on turn in whilst trail braking. Not sure if it’s the wet conditions or the tyres, but needed more front brake bias today. Seeing as it’s really only after the turn in point, we may be able to dial it out with the sway bars, but might adversely affect mid-corner balance. Wait for a dry day to see how it feels.
Temps:
- Oil Filter: 70-75
- Water upper: 60-65
- Water lower: 40-45
- Front Rotors: 240-260
- Rear Rotors: 260-300
Tyre Pressures:
- Cold setting 32psi
- Hot readings peaked at 36psi (when track was drying in places)
Hotlaps and onboards to follow…
