Perhaps because it’s Chinese New Year, or maybe we didn’t cross enough fingers, but for whatever reason after a few light runs in the Dyno, we had a another problem.
After a few minor jobs, we dropper her on the Dyno.
Vic, our tuner extraordinaire, ran a few light pulls to ensure everything was ok with the tune and all was looking well… But just as we tried for a slightly higher (only 18psi) pull on the Dyno that was enough to destroy the – already suspect – turbo bearing and caused the compressor blades to foul on the housing, hence the exhaust smoke and sound of the blades ‘tinking’ at the end.
The majority of the smoke is just the rocker breather which we had off to monitor the oil situation.
We also witnessed the limit of the coil packs so a new turbo (or at least the core) and ignition system will be the next problem to solve.
So close, we can taste it. On the bright side, we have a running car that’s otherwise reliable and internals appear healthy.
